We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to making knowledge open, inclusive, and actionable. In a world increasingly shaped by information, we work to ensure that everyone—regardless of geography, income, or background—has the right and the means to access, contribute to, and benefit from shared knowledge. We believe knowledge should not be a commodity available to a few—it should be a public good that empowers all.
Today, vital information—about education, culture, history, traditions, datamaps and civic systems—is often locked behind paywalls, centralized institutions, or inaccessible formats. This creates not only knowledge gaps but also power imbalances. OKIF exists to change that. We advocate for systems that prioritize openness, equity, and participation, helping to create a world where communities are not just consumers of knowledge but co-creators of it.
Open Knowledge Impact Foundation is dedicated to advancing equitable access to information and knowledge for all. We empower communities to create, share, and use open resources that drive education, civic engagement, open source technology, cultural documentation, and innovation. Through partnerships with global communities, cultural organizations, and grassroots networks, we foster inclusive knowledge ecosystems that support institutions, networks, and changemakers. We champion open access and build tools and spaces where knowledge can be freely shared and expanded.
We envision a world where knowledge is open, inclusive, and a catalyst for social progress – where every person has the freedom and tools to access, contribute to, and benefit from the shared wealth of human understanding.
We operate at the intersection of education, technology, and public interest—with a focus on long-term, systemic change.
We support the creation and distribution of free, adaptable educational resources—removing barriers to quality learning.
We build tools and programs that make civic information accessible and usable—promoting transparency and informed participation.
We help communities preserve and share their local knowledge, languages, and histories through open platforms.
We design and support open-source digital infrastructure that enables collaboration, access, and innovation—empowering others to build on shared tools and systems.
We work directly with communities to co-create solutions, while nurturing local leaders who can advocate for open knowledge and drive change from within.
We collaborate with a diverse network of partners—including open source leaders, nonprofit organizations, technologists, and educators. Together, we amplify the power of shared knowledge to address real-world challenges and drive systemic change.
