Advancing Open Knowledge Through Action
At the Open Knowledge Impact Foundation (OKIF), we believe knowledge becomes powerful when it is open, inclusive, and accessible. Our work focuses on empowering communities, amplifying marginalized voices, and building sustainable systems that foster shared learning and cultural understanding. Here’s how we’re turning that vision into action:
Open Education Initiatives
We support the creation and distribution of openly licensed educational content to bridge access gaps and empower self-directed learning. From school students to lifelong learners, we promote tools and projects that enable anyone, anywhere, to learn freely.
Cultural Heritage & Oral Knowledge
A campaign that celebrates folklore heritage through contributions to Wikimedia projects, encouraging the documentation and preservation of oral traditions, festivals, and culture.
Gender Equity & Representation
An annual international writing campaign (February–March) that encourages the creation of Wikipedia articles on women leaders, gender issues, and feminist themes within folklore traditions. The initiative addresses the gender and cultural content gap on the internet, with a strong focus on inclusivity and representation.
